EAST BUNGAREE JOINS FORCES WITH COLLINSVILLE

South Australia is now home to the largest supplier of Merino and Poll Merino genetics in Australia.

One of Australia’s oldest studs, East Bungaree, has been sold in its entirety to Collinsville Stud Merinos making the union of the two the largest volume Merino and Poll Merino breeders of Australia.

Collinsville and East Bungaree Studs will remain separate with normal continuity of respective bloodlines and management while under new ownership.

The combination of East Bungaree and Collinsville Merino Studs will bring collective experience, knowledge and long-lasting, profitable bloodlines to the Merino and Poll Merino Industry.

“This opportunity will further enable us to be of scale and specialisation to meet the needs of our customers both large and small into the future,” says George Millington, owner of two iconic Australian Merino and Poll Merino Studs.

Sheep from both studs will be the same. Nothing will change moving forward in terms of how we run both studs.

“We are pleased that Tony Brooks, from East Bungaree, will continue to be actively working with the East Bungaree stud and sheep as the key person involved in selection and breeding of the stud bloodlines.”

Collinsville Stud Merinos and East Bungaree Sheep Stud are neighbours near Hallett and share the vagaries of seasons and markets that are part and parcel of the sheep and ag industry.

“The sheep are not moving far and will still be bred to meet the needs of customers in the Mid North of South Australia at Hallett. It is a great opportunity for East Bungaree to be owned by a private South Australian family,” says Tony Brooks, East Bungaree Co-principal.

Tony admires both East Bungaree and Collinsville’s heavy-cutting wools and large frame genetics with both studs’ having a strong reputation across the world for profitability and productivity.

The team at Collinsville are really excited about the opportunity to work with Tony Brooks and East Bungaree.

“We have long term plans in Agriculture with the vision to continue to grow both studs leading the way in genetics within the Merino and Poll Merino Stud industry,” says George Millington.

Between both studs approximately 2000 Merino and Poll Merino rams have been sold in the 2020 sale season. Both studs welcome enquires regarding forward breeding requirements from interested parties.
